Why Now
While Massachusetts is a wealthy state with a robust philanthropic community, many dollars flow out of the state to aid other important efforts across the nation. Many people have become complacent, assuming we live in a progressive stronghold and that there is no need to significantly invest in and grow our progressive civic infrastructure. Look closely and you’ll see we are a state quietly under siege from a well-organized movement looking to shift the political landscape away from the needs of a multi-racial & socioeconomically diverse Massachusetts for good—and their efforts are becoming effective. There has never been a more important time to help Massachusetts live up to its potential as a progressive beacon, instead of its reality as simply a moderate blue state.
What Makes Us Different
We use our funding exclusively for community empowerment and causes in Massachusetts. We are authentic and transparent, strategic and values based. We are committed to racial justice and equity and we work for inclusivity, effectiveness and long-term success. We believe in the power of community-based organizations and the need for insights, strengths and expertise of women, BIPOC individuals, and other historically marginalized and underrepresented communities as leaders, funders, and elected officials. We are passionate about the progressive movement, fearless about fighting for equity and determined to make sure progressive supporters do not become complacent. We work quietly and powerfully, without ego but with relentless determination.
Bay State Progress funds directly in the 501(C)(3) space, but we are connected to broader work across multiple funding designations and can “see the field” for connective threads in advancing a progressive agenda.
